Career Exploration

Overview

Students will research a career and create a booklet to record the details of the job.

Teacher Directions

1. Either create your own booklet to fill in, or have the students create their own Student Career Exploration Booklet.  The booklet needs to have the following headings: Education, Skills and Abilities, A Day in the Life.

2. Have the students think of a career they think might be interesting to research.

3. Have the students visit the website: https://www.careeronestop.org/

4. Have the students click Explore Careers.

5. Instruct the students to type a career of interest in the Occupation, then click Search.

6.  Have the students click "Education and Training". Read the information provided, and have them complete the Education page in their booklet. Make sure they pay attention to the line labeled, "Typical education needed for entry".

7. Then have them go back to the top of the page and click "Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities." Read about the knowledge, skills and abilities for their career of interest and have them complete the Skills and Abilities page of their book.

8. Then have them click "Tasks and Activities". Read the information and complete the Day in the Life of their booklet.

9.  Tell them to take the booklet home and refer to it as they make a career choice for high school.

 

1.  Follow your teacher's directions for creating a Career Exploration Booklet.  

2.  Think of a career you think might be interesting and write it down on the front of your booklet.

3.  Visit the website: https://www.careeronestop.org/

4. Click "Explore Careers".

5.  Type a career of interest in the "Occupation" box , then click Search.

6.  Click "Education and Training". Read the information provided, and complete the Education page in your booklet. Pay attention to the line labeled, Typical education needed for entry.

7. Then go back to the top of the page and click "Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities." Read about the knowledge, skills and abilities for your career of interest and complete the Skills and Abilities page of your book.

8. Then click "Tasks and Activities". Read the information and complete the Day in the Life of your booklet.

9. Now you have something to take home and refer to as you plan your future. This is a great resource as you go into high school.
