    Students create a brochure or a pamphlet designed to promote an animal related career. Students can create a digital or non-digital version.

    Next Generation Science Standards:K-ESS2-2 Construct an argument supported by evidence for how plants and animals (including humans) can change the environment to meet their needs.

    Plan/Activity:

    Students create a brochure or pamphlet designed to promote an animal related career.

    • Have students identify an animal based career choice.
    • Create a list of animal based career choices on Smartboard or dry erase board. Careers options might include: Zoo Veterinarian, Vet Tech, Vet Assistant, Zoologist, Marine Biologist, Animal Trainer, Guide Dog Trainer, Pet Adoption Counselor, Animal Nutritionist, Wildlife Rehabilitator, Animal Control Officer, Animal Shelter Assistant/Volunteer
    • Ask students to create a brochure or pamphlet that highlights this career. The brochure should include a description of the career, how does the career relate to animals, type of education needed, skills needed, etc.
    • Students can create their brochure either digital or non-digital.
    • Students may find it helpful to refer to the research sites previously presented or Ohio Means Jobs K-12 for current career information to include in their brochures.
    • Students share and present their career brochure/pamphlet to the class when completed.   

     

    Materials needed:

    • Chromebook: for digital options
    • Non-digital materials: construction paper, markers, crayons, colored pencils, magazine cut-outs, etc. (if students chose non-digital option)
    • Brochure how to/ideas

    Variation:

    Have animal related career professionals, graphic designer, author/illustrator, book publisher visit the school to share with students their experience working in that field. Provide students with the opportunity for a question/answer session.

    Students could create a storyboard or slow motion story based on their animal related career choice.

    Explore career options further through project based learning, genius hour, or passion projects.

    Career Connections:

    Create a brochure or pamphlet to promote an animal related career. You can create a digital or non-digital brochure to share with your classmates. 

    The brochure should highlight the career. The following items should be included in your brochure:

    • Description of the animal related career
    • How does the career relate to animals
    • Type of education needed 
    • Skills needed
    • Any other valuable information
    • Pictures of related career
