Take the BookFlix class to learn more about the digital resource licensed by INFOhio.

What title or pair will you use to support the standard/theme you are teaching? How will you use the lesson plan from BookFlix?

We Help out at School and Chrysanthemum

I will use the before and after reading/viewing activities to further the children's learning. Doing a pre and post assessment/review is something I have struggled with

I used the Vegetables Vegetables! / LMNO Peas themed pair to support the lesson plan on gardening

I'm a library media specialist and I recently had a request for garden themed books. I am curious as to how well that went for you? Did you select most relevant parts of the lesson plan?

I also looked at this pairing for our gardening unit of study, especially since we planted a building garden with each classroom planting a different kind of seed in their plot and taking turns caring for the garden.

We are currently learning about fall/pumpkins/leaves and I think that Fletcher and the Falling Leaves/How do you know it's Fall? combo will work great with our theme!

I would love to use the lesson plan as closely as possible with my 4-5 year olds. We would need to do the vocabulary activity as a large group, perhaps breaking it down to one vocabulary word per day. I love the idea of the shared writing activity and believe this is a great activity for writing development as my studens prepare to enter Kindergarten. I also believe the paired-text activities would need to be completed as a large or small group, as my students aren't independently writing yet.

Your book choice seems right on point for your theme. I like your idea of spreading out the vocabulary words over days, which will help them grasp them better.

Blackout and How do you Know It's Summer; supports making inferences and ideas and themes

The lesson plan is interesting. It's almost as if the two books don't really go together, but were forced together. I like the activities and questions for the fiction book better than the non-fiction. I might try to modify those activities to try to align them better with the fiction text.

"Bear has a story to tell" and "How do you know it's Winter?"

I will do the After viewing activities. The sequences of the story, and talking about what is fiction (imaginary) and non-ficition (facts).

As an Instructional Technology Coach, I can see myself using many of the book pairs with the teachers and students I work with. Our Kindergarten classes learn about American symbols so one pair I can see myself using is The Star-Spangled Banner / The American Flag. I would use the before/after reading prompts as well as some of the paired text activities from the lesson plan.

I am so excited to see the Bink and Gollie and the Conflict Resolution: When Friends Fight because one of my focuses this year is socio-emotional learning. Reading through the lesson plan, I plan to incorporate the idea of stopping the read aloud to ask the kids to focus on the visuals for additional input into understanding each character's feelings. I also will use the vocabulary strategies as I believe we should give the students better language to express themselves, especially their emotions, so they can be understood. am thrilled to learn about this resource!

I am using the pair Planting a Rainbow and It Could Still be a Flower during our gardening unit of study.  I will use the lesson plan from BookFlix to introduce different vocabulary words and to make predictions while watching the video.  We have a school garden where each classroom planted different seeds and are checking on their growth.  We also take turns caring for the garden by water the seeds and plants and pulling the weeds that might be growing in each plot.

Johnny Appleseed would be the titles to utilize. In K we have used these to help familiarize the students to Ohioians that have made a difference. Students will dress up and then we spend the day doing different activities that correlate to the standards and finish with the students planting a tree for their class.

Utilizing the lesson plan from Bookflix will make sure the standards are covered.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Let's Have Fun with Alphabet Riddles

I will incorporate using magnetic tiles with my EL students who are just learning the alphabet so that they can have hands-on practice. I also like the Puzzler piece of Bookflix to use as sort of a check-in for students.

The pair that I will be using is There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly and You Are What You Eat to support the theme of healthy eating.  This past year, I had a difficult time finding appropriate books that addressed healty eating for ages 3-4.  I wish I had known about this resource at that time.

I will use the Bookflix lesson plans for this pair by incorporating parts of the paired-text activities.  We will discuss the silliness of the first book (eating cows, horses, cats - imaginary) vs. what we really should eat (healthy foods - real life) and then do a healthy food activity to reinforce learning.

I am the LRC tech, so I'm more interested in engagement than supporting teaching. I like the Amazing Grace/Jackie Robinson pairing as there is a relatable store from 2 perspectives that will interest most of my classes.

Anne McDowell 1 year ago

I will use "The Dot" and "The Colors of the Rainbow". This will help support our STEAM Class. We use "The Dot" for special STEAM lessons and having it as an additional resource for students to refer to will be great! I like the puzzlers for student extension activities.

The Night Before Christmas/Christmas (No-Fiction) Pair as we approach the holiday's, I will use the lesson plan to provide extended learning on it's information and combine with our already implemented curriculum.

I will choose Chicka Chicka 1 2 3 and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom to help my 4 year old with the alphabet and numbers

A pair that would be useful in the coming weeks in the classroom would be So You Wnat to be President/George Washington. With President's Day coming up, this pairing would be a good piece for disucssion about Presidents. The lesson plan available does a good job of introducing vocabulary that students will need to understand before listening to the story.
