I think using Google Classroom and other features of online learning, like Google Read and Write, it is easier for students to access digital materials.
Using Google classroom and a shared google drive helps students access and share digital text. Showcasing various resources also models for the students how to use digital texts. Students particularly find it useful when I can show them resources that help them with their projects.
Students are familiar with the Google Suite of apps and many of our Intervention Specialists use the Read/Write Chrome extension with their students for reading digital texts.
I utilize Google Classroom for my IEP student to give them access to material I utilize, Readworks and other activities. The use of Kami enhances all activities also.
I have access to Google Classroom and I am able to edit the Library Subpage of my school website. This means that I can easily share links on Google Classroom, but also directly alter our website. Just by having a conversation with my supervisor we changed it so our “Giant Search Box” at the top of the page will search either the library catalog, or by toggling over to “Search INFOhio” it will directly search https://isearch.infohio.org/
My district is a Google District and the option to save things directly to your drive or post on the classroom is amazing. After completing the process it was efficient, time saving, and super simple to use. This is a great way to extend a lesson and take the students farther into a topic of conversation.
