HQIMs are materials which have been evaluated and assessed and deemed to align with content standards. They allow for equity in the classroom when they are implemented with fidelity.
Equity is definitely a piece of high-quality materials that has not always been addressed.
High-quality instructional materials are a source of research-based strategies that align with the state content standards. HQIM are vetted and can be implemented by teachers in a variety of formats.
Based on my experiences the three qualities that jumped to the forefront for me are accessible in multiple formats, aligned to Ohio Learning Standards, and current and relevant while providing engaging opportunities for individual or collaborative learning.
HQIM must be accessible in multiple formats. Not all learners are in typical classrooms, some are online. HQIM need to be available to those students as well.
I think the most important elements to HQM are these:
research-based
standards-aligned
bias-free
Varied & cooperative in medium & modes
High-quality instructional materials are materials that are research-based, aligned to standards, free from bias, and engaging for learners.
HQIMs are instructional materials that are research based, allign to state standards, flexible, free from bias, and provide opportunities to engage students in different ways.
It is important that students are engaged with the learning in a variety of ways. Therefore, HQIM should provide that for them.
High-quality instructional materials should be bias-free (and in my oppinion, not for profit), vetted by experts in the field, align with state standards, be available in multiple formats to meet the individual needs each teacher must account for, and should be relevant to today's classroom dynamic encouraging inquiry-based learning and collaborative learning.
I couldn't have said it better, Christine.
HQIM is high quality for ALL! It should be assessed by experienced TEACHERS, people on the front line of education, aligns with content standards and flexible to meet the needs of every student regardless of their ability.
High quality for all is such a critical point so that they support effective and efficient differentiation for all learners and learning styles.
High-quality instructional materials are materials that help the teachers provide the best quality of information/learning to the students so they can hit the current standards benchmark.
I find it interesting that HQIM include being bias-free. Are there actually history textbooks that have been published as bias-free and show a better picture of US & World history? Which leads to my next question, how can you have bias-free when everything is written by multiple people and at some point bias will come into play even with the topics included in the textbook.
High-quality instructional materials must be state standards-aligned and support college/career readiness. The materials should be vetted by credible and trusted experts in the field, be relevant to student learning, and encourage student engagement with the text/resource. Chosen materials should also meet a variety of learning modalities and (in most cases) be used in face-to-face and online learning environments. As a side note--high-quality instructional materials should be available to all students regardless of which school they attend.
High Quality instructional material are vetted by the teachers and adminstrators to make sure the information taught aligns with the standards. Through the use of these materials, at risk students close the learning gap.
HQIM is material that is standard aligned, researched based, and can be delivered in a variety of methods to meet needs of learners.
High-quality instructional materials are flexible for a variety of different learners and directly align to academic content standards. These materials are free from bias, research-based, and support increased engagement and overall success for students.
HQIM should be research-based, free from bias, aligned to standards, and presented in different ways for all learners.
High-quality instructional materials are educational resources that align closely with curriculum standards, engage learners effectively, and provide accurate and reliable information. They should be accessible, relevant, and support differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners.
