Library Leadership Ohio presents “Be the Change” workshop series

The State Library of Ohio and OhioNet are collaborating to bring you the “Be the Change” online workshop series under the umbrella of Library Leadership Ohio (LLO).

The LLO committee recognizes the ongoing challenges facing library staff around Ohio, and we are committed to broadening access to these programs and resources by creating a new, online leadership opportunity.

This series of events is open to Ohio library staff of all types and from all levels to grow their knowledge on a topic and explore how they can make change within their organization and the field at large. The programs delivered will focus on important and timely topics in the library field that require systemic shifts in perspective and action.

Each two-hour virtual meeting will feature an interactive presentation from subject matter experts, followed by facilitated breakout sessions in small groups. Though prior knowledge and experience with each topic is strongly encouraged, participants will have access to curated resources to help them prepare for each meeting. There will be no application process and no charge to participate. Sign up for just one presentation or plan to take all three workshops in series – these workshops are free and available to everyone.

Our first event will be held on 6/8/22 with a focus on resilience and how to change the culture within our profession and within individual organizations to better support the social emotional wellbeing of library workers. Led by #1 New York Times Bestselling Author of The Power of Regret, When, To Sell is Human, Drive, and A Whole New Mind Daniel Pink, attendees will reflect on key questions to ask as the world emerges from the pandemic. Libraries, just like organizations everywhere, are reexamining their operations and rethinking their priorities. What do they stand for? How should they navigate what comes next? And how might they build cultures where people can do their best work and be their best selves?

In this provocative and practical presentation, #1 New York Times bestselling author Daniel Pink will draw on an unprecedented two-year study of our most misunderstood emotion: regret. He will show that ignoring or rejecting regrets is a colossal mistake. Instead, confronting regrets systematically can deliver an array of organizational benefits. It can sharpen leaders’ decisions, speed learning and development, and boost individual and team performance.
