Penelope Shumaker Promoted to Library Consultant

Penelope ShumakerThe State Library is pleased to announce Penelope Shumaker has been promoted to Library Consultant in our Library Programs and Development (LPD) Division. As Library Consultant, Penelope will coordinate NASA@ My Library and Solar Eclipse for Libraries (SEAL) programs as well as the Reimagining School Readiness workshop. In addition to these programs, she will continue her work with Ohio Digital Network (ODN) and Digital Public Library of America (DPLA). Penelope guides ODN member institutions in preparing their metadata for ingest into DPLA. She also coordinates the LSTA Metadata Mini-Grant and assists on other LSTA grant initiatives. 

 

Penelope has been Metadata Librarian in LPD performing all duties associated with metadata creation and aggregation since 2017. Before working at the State Library, she reviewed metadata at SpotON Reviews.  Penelope also held several positions at Columbus Metropolitan Library including Homework Help Specialist, Youth Services Specialist and Customer Service Specialist.  She taught English before beginning her librarianship career. 

 

Penelope earned a Master of Library and Information Science from Kent State University (KSU) School of Library and Information Science (now known as KSU iSchool) and holds a Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in Philosophy from Cedarville University.
