My students have enjoyed exploring and using Book Nook to create video book trailers in the past, but we always have trouble uploading and getting videos in to correct file format.
I also love the resources R4S to teach research skills that can be applied to any topic. I like that you can move through each stage of writing a "research paper" because students often find the process overwhelming.
Next school year, I will be moving to building with upper grades. I expect to utalize Academic Search Premier for the first time!
Academic Search Premier is a resource. INFOhio created web tools to support the resources. You might take a look at Research 4 Success!

After reviewing the tools on the Teach & Learn flyer, the one tool that I think will work well with my students and curriculum would be IWonder. Our data this year has shown that we are making a significant differnce on those learners that fall below grade level, but students that are on grade level seem to stay on-grade level instead of going above and beyond. I believe that IWonder might be an excellent tool to incorporate next year to expand the learning of those students ready to know more! They have a natural curiosity and IWonder might provide them with the resource they need to push to that next level of learning capacity!
I am excited to explore and utilize Educator's tools. The few topics I teach that I looked up had a great deal of carefully curated lessons. Not feeling like you have any resources and coming up with your own ideas feels overwhelming, so I am excited to add this tool to my toolbox and share it with colleagues. I will have a student teacher this fall and I think this will help her with preparing for lessons.
That's great to hear! Make sure to also check out the Teacher Resources in The World Almanac for Kids Elementary resource where you can find additional instructional materials!
I'm excited to try GO! Ask, Act, Achieve. The writing process is important and tough to teach. Having this site to help guide both teachers and students is important. We can't know everything and sometimes students don't know where to start. Getting started, or having an idea - or even a place to got to LOOK for an idea will make a difference in a classroom. I love the simplicity with how the website is laid out, too.
I think Go!'s content lends itself well to mini-lessons on writing as well. There are many possibilities!
After reviewing the tools on the Teach & Learn flyer, I believe the World Book Student would be beneficial for our students and curriculum. It has been identified that vocabulary/terminology is needed a large focus with our students and I believe this interactive encyclopedia will help reinforce what teachers would be teaching in the classroom in regards to terms and concepts.
World Book are resources that are licensed by INFOhio. I encourage you to check out some of the INFOhio tools for research such as Go! Ask, Act Achieve, Research 4 Success, and ISearch (Tools are in a different color on the Teach and Learn flyers)
Yes, World Book resources are great for developing background knowledge as well as vocabulary development and support. World Book has a great dictionary tool as well -- when users double click on any unfamiliar word in the article they are reading, a pop-up window appears with the dictionary definition of that word!
I am hoping to support the fourth and fifth-grade teachers with our goal of infusing more inquiry-based thinking into the curriculum and think that Go! Ask, Act, Achieve would be a great tool to supplement. Because writing is a skill that is across the curriculum, this tool supports teachers in bridging writing skills with inquiry skills in a marriage that is fantastic! Fourth and Fifth grade is the perfect starting point for me to launch a session with the respective teachers because of the transitionary years between our primary students and junior high students.
When I saw that digging into the materials re reading digital text was an option, I chose this Infohio incentive versus a single webtool. As we gear up to implement the Ohio dyslexia-driven legislation, it's important to be mindful of all scientific aspects of Reading, including the neurologically-based aspects of screen readinga and interaction. We have had goal in our district strategic plan to pay more attention to the differences between digital and print text formats since 2019. Pandemic and whatever--not much concerted effort has been exerted to learn or disseminate more information. From exploring the materials today, I feel prepared to create a game plan for helping more district and community players understand how the print and digital can be leveraged to work together--IF efforts are intentional. Something I sense may provide a bridge--the research and work at the Center for Applied Special Technologies (CAST) around Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
Reading on the screen is a passion project for me, Melanie! Stay tuned as we roll out an accessability blog series to support diverse reader needs and multisenory approaches for reading!
PebbleGo Next: K-2 students have become familiar using PebbleGo for research, as it has been available in our school for a number of years. I’m happy PebbleGo Next is available from INFOhio for the older students, it should be a seamless transition to using this resource for teachers and students.
How exciting to have both resources to help students learn the basics of research!
I would like to learn more about Book Nook and hopefully use this with my students. I have many who do not read. WHen it is time to check out books, they don't. This breaks my heart as a Librarian/Teacher, and also as a reader. One goal I have for next year is to try to encourage more students to read self-selected titles. I think that creating book reviews and sharing them might be a way to build some excitement around reading.
I chose Gale In Context Elementary as my tool to explore. I have used World Book and BookFlix for several years now, so I needed to learn more about Gale In Context so I can expand the resources I offer to Students and teachers.
I chose Gale In Context-Elementary. I have not worked with this resource yet and wanted to see how it differed from World Book Early Learning and World Book Kids. I like that there are several different reliable researching tools to use on INFOhio. I work with K-3 students and they are just diving into the world of reseach and how to learn about topics that interest them.
One tool from this flyer that I will share with my staff is Explora for Students. This will integrate well into classroom instruction because it provides a wealth of knowledge in a variety of media including full-text articles, images, videos, and primary sources organized by grade levels.
Book Nook - I'm excited to share Book Nook with teachers as an idea lesson they can use with their students instead of a traditional "book report". Students will love having the opportunity to create a book trailer using technology and sharing it with an authentic audience.
Book Nook - The ability to explore and create book trailers brings a whole new excitement level to reading. I am always in favor of any resource that allows students to create!
I think that Fetch will be a great tool to work with my students in creating confident and self-sufficient library users. As my older students have built confidence in navigating their own library, they have been amazed at how much more they can accomplish in one class period. I'm excited to use Fetch as a tool to create these same type of capable and confident students starting at an even earlier grade.
