  1.  INQUIRY AND INFOHIO: LOCATING INFORMATION is the web tool/ initiative class that I completed.  I decided to complete this class because teaching how to evaluate information is no longer the sole responsibility of the library media specialist, but all educators.
  2. The features that are the most appealing to students is the Go! Ask, Act, Achieve.  Educators will enjoy this resource because scholars are able to crate project using the most innovative tools on the internet.  There is also a feature that teaches students how to correctly cite information.  Parents will appreciate that students will safely publish materials on the site free from the dangers of the internet.
  3. I recommend Go! Ask, Act, Achieve because students can safely create projects, cite sources, and publish information safely on the internet. There is also a rubric that helps students evaluate their creation and the quality of effort from the group.  This helps with ensuring fair workloads for students in groups.

1.  I chose to complete the class on IWonder.  I chose it because it has such a wide grade bandwidth.  Since I serve all grades as a technology integration specialist, I wanted to research a tool I could share with many teachers across all contents.

2.  I think this tool appeals to students because they can choose their topic and even search for questions they have.  I think educators would like this tool because it allows for student voice and choice while still providing high-quality resources and structure through the genius hour worksheet that is available.  I think parents would also appreciate that using IWonder to search for content is preferable to just searching the internet.  The information their child is accessing is trustworthy and age-appropriate.

3.  If the teacher already has resources for the lesson and most of the plan is in place, I would suggest using IWonder as a way to allow students to explore the content further.  I think IWonder is also a great way to introduce the practice of genius hour because it allows for student exploration in a safe environment.

1. I actually completed two because of my interest! What is Inquiry is an important focus for Lakota as we try to get teachers, even high-school teachers, to consider adding an inquiry component to their line-up.

2. Most appealing aspect:

For students: Undoubtedly the element of choice. They feel so empowered whenever we can offer them coice in pace, path, or content!

For teachers: Having the process spelled out that walks students through the process that may seem overwhelming at first.

Parents: Connections to the real-world

It's important to student learning because students can understand context of topics so much better and realize that what they do actually matters to the world at large.

Have you considered using Inquiry for this project using Infohio as a guidebook? I think you'll find the process is well-designed to support both you and your students as you tackle a new approach.

1. The web tool/initiative class I completed was What is Inquiry? I decided to complete this class because I have always had an interest in inquiry based learning, and I wanted more information on the tools and resources that could help create an inquiry based classroom.

2. For this initiative, students will really enjoy the element of freedom and choice when in an inquiry based learning classroom. I think that GO! and R4S both provide necessary support and guidance for students to feel like they can be successful answering big problems.Teachers and educators will love to see the real learning taking place when students are able to inquire. This style of teaching may seem daunting at first, and initial setup can be difficult, but with practice, teachers will find themselves acting more as guides, rather than lecturers. The support for teacher on GO! and R4S are really strong and the tools are easy to implement. Parents will see their students being challenged and having success. Whenever I had showcases so students could share work, parents were very happy to see what was being done in the classroom.

3. I would suggest using GO! Ask, Act, Acheive to help guide students through an inquiry based learning project. Students can access many different resources, are provided with helpful supports, such as rubrics, and can complete projects based on their interests. I would recommend to the teacher to consider inquiry based learning and compare student engagement and success to other types of assessments currently being used.

1. I completed the What Is Inquiry? class. I decided to complete this class because I work with many different content areas and inquiry is something that can be applied to all of them.

2. This initiative is important to supporting student learning because it empowers students to be a part of their own learning process. When students are allowed to complete true inquiry, they are more engaged and invested in their learning.

3. I would explain that if they are struggling with giving students freedom to choose a topic or complete research, they can use this INFOhio initiative to guide them through the process. They can find resources to support their instruction and their students' research by exploring the materials included in the What Is Inquiry initiative.

I used IWonder for the web tool initiative. I chose this because I was unfamiliar with it. Students will like the layout of the site and the variety of topics. Educators will appreciate an additional resource to assist their students with the content they teach. The tool is useful across the curriculum. This is definitely a tool students can utilize for homework help. Parents will appreciate the resource for that reason as well. To teachers, I would mention specific content and videos that IWonder delivers. I would also mention the Genius Hour, which might be something to incorporate into the PASS class.

A disadvantage to this for students is that they will not be able to access videos from Youtube, as that is blocked at school.

I chose IWonder.  To learn how to acess and integrate it into  teaching the students.

Students will like getting assistant with homework.

IWonder has a lot of resources available to help students with research and homework.

I completed IWonder because I was curious to what all this entails.

I chose this because it's student inquiry based, and it intrigues me to see what kind of questions they may have that they won't ask for fear of feeling "dumb". This will help the teachers guide the students toward the Genius hour, if teachers want to try inquiry based projects. The information and resources are high quality and contained in a safe space to protect children while they are online.

I would suggest using IWonder to allow the students to direct their own inquiry on a specific topic. Students could share their stream of conciousness that led to their question.

iSearch for inquiry. I decided to complete this class because it is already a resource I use in my classroom with my high school seniors for research papers, and I wanted to gain more insight on ways to use it that would help my students.

The features that are the most appealing to students is that they are able to find so much information in one place. To educators it is the fact that they are scholarly articles and journals and the use of the citation machine. To parents-I am not entirely sure as our students do not really use this tool at home.

This tool has a lot of information in one place that our students can research. It can even cite the sources for them and it helps them learn how to refine their searches so that they can get the right information instead of googling something and coming up with millions of useless websites-this will give them accurate and scholarly information that can be used in our research papers.

1.  I did the Isearch class because we use Isearch frequently at the career center for research and competitions.

2. Student appeal- The fact that they can search the school library and all the databases simotaneously is huge for our students.  This saves time and reduces frustration.

Educator- I think the same is true for educators as students.  As a teacher, the citation help is critical.  Grading is much easier when the citation is basically already done for the student and the exported to their page.

Parents- I think the simplicity of navigation is great for parents of all background and abilities.  Parents feel that they can actually help their student at home.

I-search is a great tool for this generation of student. Students are used to "Googling" everything and this does the same thing using reliable educational material.

3. I always push Infohio/Isearch because it is a reliable, educational, and safe option for students where you can find fantastic information.  Instead of worrying what "kind" of information and how "true" the information is, students/staff will save oodles of time.

  1. What is Inquiry?  I believe inquiry is the heart of true learning and I wanted to learn what this class had to offer to support the process for teachers and students.
  2. Students - the ability to make choices and drive their own learning. Educators - The depth of real world learning that takes place through inquiry. Teachers becoming guides and coaches, as opposed to owning all of the information.  This a huge mind shift for some teachers, but welcomed one they give it a chance. Parents - Real world connections and keeping students interested in their learning.  I’ve often said that students begin school (k) as question marks and leave (graduate) as periods.  We need to keep them asking questions!
  3. Do you want to get students excited about learning again? Have you thought about inquiry based learning activities?  I know it can be tough to get started, but InfOhio has some wonderful resources to help you through the process.  Don’t forget, I’m here too!

I chose the IWonder web tool.  It was one that I was unfamiliar with is why I chose this class.

I did enjoy the ease at finding your way around.  With the ease increases the odds that the students will continue to use in the future.

I wonder helps the students to explore further the lesson.  Plus, each individual student can get help with which part that may be more difficult with them.

1) The initiative that I chose was Reading on the Screen because I teach reading intervention and want to make sure that I am presenting the reading passages for kids in the right way.

2) This initiative is important to supporting student learning because we have to teach our students how to read digital text. Studies show that we comprehend less and miss more details when we read a text online versus when we read it in print. Our students will be required to read digital text, so we need to teach them strategies for reading, tools that can be used, and how to identify if information is accurate or not.

3) Teaching our students how to read effectively on the screen is so important! Our students are going to have to read from a screen throughout their lives and need to be able to do it well. We need to incorporate technology into our reading and teach students how to use tools and identify correct/incorrect information to set them up for success in digital reading.

  1. Which web tool/initiative class did you complete? What made you decide to complete this class?
  2. What features of the web tool are most appealing to students? To educators? To parents?/How is the initiative important to supporting student learning?
  3. One of your co-workers has approached you in the hall for help with a lesson. Write two to three sentences you would use to explain why they should use the INFOhio web tool or initiative to support student learning.

The web tool/initiative I completed was "Reading on the Screen" under the K-5 digital pathway. I completed this class because the two resources I chose were both based on reading online and I felt that it was an important concept to understand when working with students that are one-to-one on Chromebooks.

I see the most benefit for students being scaffolding and accommodations. By completing this initiative we are really supporting each student in a way that best works for them. For educators, I believe this makes them consider what they need to do and how they need to do it to support their students when they are reading on the computer. This holds true for parents as well. Helping them to be aware of how to support their child when reading on a screen.

If you will be using INFOhio in your classroom you should absolutely follow the "Reading on the Screen" initiative. IT will help scaffold for each of your students and give them a variety of reading materials. Most importantly it will help them prepare for reading on a device.
