ICoach 2023-2024 Post 14: Reflecting on Your Learning

by Emily Rozmus 1 year, 2 months ago

What INFOhio resource or service are you most looking foward to sharing or training others on when the school year begins? How will you let others in your building or district know about it? How will you support the learning and continued use of this in the classroom?

Kim Tenerowicz 1 year, 2 months ago

This year I am looking forward to using Bookflix, Highligts, World Book, and Alamanac. I have already sent out information to the faculty in their mailboxes, have emailed faculty and have spoken to them individually by planning and collaborating with teachers for upcoming research and STEM projects. I am looking forward to working with students to review how to use digital resources such as World Book for their research and STEM projects. I use digital resources during the students library time as well as collaborating and demonstrating this in the classroom so students are getting reinforcement and teachers are able to ask questions as I am demonstrating in the classroom on how to use these resources.

Bookflix is always great to share.  Capstone Interactive books are great as well!!

Susan Ridgeway 11 months ago

For my 4th and 5th grade teachers, I want them to know about Bookflix and Culturegrams. Both are so relevant for these grade levels. I love the pairing of fiction and nonfiction books in Bookflix especially when so many students don't know all of the parts of a nonfiction book like the Tables of Contents, Index and Glossary. What better way to learn about these concepts than to contrast and compare with fiction books. For my 6th, 7th and 8th grade teachers, I want them to know about the science platforms:Science on Line, Science Reference Center, Science Flix and Today's Science, for the science fair. I will also steer the art teachers toward the Holocaust platforms: Holocaust & Genocide Videos (Infobase) which includes the Holocaust of American Native Indians, and the ebooks databases from Gale and Infobase. I will share the Current Biography Illustrated with my fifth grade teachers for our big Biography Tea we have every year, and Points of View Reference Center with my 8th grade social studies teacher for the Soapbox Challenge they will be having evey year. I will be forwarding the Monthly Blog to teachers every month and I will be printing off how-to flyers from Help Docs & Promotional Materials. I will also be sending email reminders of how I can help for upcoming events throughout the year.

I already use and like bookflix, but i want to explore IWONDER more and delve into the adult resources so i can share them efficiently to my teachers. I am also intrigued by booknook an dwant to add that to my toolkit for my reluctant readers

I am looking forward to sharing many resources with my colleagues. We have an EdCamp stye PD day coming this spring and I'm planning on presenting a few of these resources for a few sessions. BookFlix, iWonder, PebbleGo. I will also be sharing INFOhio resources as a technology coach "tech-tidbits" that will be sent periodically. I will offer assistance and additional support as needed on a one-to-one setting or in a group setting.

Adrienne Byers 10 months, 1 week ago

I am looking forward to sharing BookFlix, World Book Kids, and Highlights. I have already posted the printable flyers on World Book to hang around our library to spark interest in our students on what it has to offer. I will also propose to present the information I have learned at our next instructional improvement day.

Lauren Rocco 10 months ago

World Book Kids and Highlights would be the resources I am most looking forward to using and helping others use as well. They are visually apealing, easy to navigate, and help you learn something in a fun way. I will be sharing these resources with other educators in my building.

I look forward to using bookflix, IWonder, and worldbook early learning.  I will use them in the LRC as an extra tool to assist students with their learning, and the more I get explore all the options available to me, I will pass them on to the teachers and studetns highlighting what I think they would find most useful under each resource.

I love introducing Infohio as a entire platform to my students and teachers. There are so many different options for them to explore and use that it will be helpful to them all in many different ways. From reserch for the students to teaching materials for the teachers.

I am really excited to share Capstone interactive EBooks with our students, teachers and counselors I went to "Pebble Go Next"and was amazed at all that was available. What I really liked was how easy it was to get to mental health and find selfcare techniques. This can be a difficult time for  middle school students and this is something they can find on their own with a little guidance. I would like to share this info with the staff by email, put flyers on each of the floors and make myself available for any additional training that might need to be done.

I am thrilled to have this knowledge from the INFOhio ICoach course to share with the students, teachers, and community involved with our district. As Annie M. mentioned above, we have started a new path with coaching in our district. We have two technology coaches and a literacy coach. INFOhio has many applications and resources that would be great to share, such as BookFlix, Explora, and Highlights Library for our literacy coach. Along with Annie, our role as technology coach will be greatly impacted for the better with the ability to share the resources such as PebbleGo Next, The World Almanac for Kids, and IWonder. I can foresee meeting in small learning communities to share these resources, and practice together. I also see presenting some of the above mentioned resources during PD time, and during classroom coaching cycles.

As we prepare for research essays, I'd be willing to introduce and train others on the World Almanac for Kids available through INFOhio. This resource would help give databases, articles, and tools to support students in conducting high-quality research across various subjects. To inform colleagues in my building about it I plan to attend PLC sessions and introduce it so educators can explore the platform's features and learn effective research strategies. I could work alongside teachers to coteach a research lesson utilizing World Almanac for Kids.

As someone with a journalism class, I am excited to use the EBSCO's Multi-Database Search to help my students access the materials they needed without running into the barriers of paywalls.  Additionally, the database's search function is intuitive and allows the students to quickly gain access to articles and publications that deal with a specific topic, providing them with multiple sources to compare and review.

Whitney Mihalik 8 months, 1 week ago

I'm most excited to use the resource on presenting both viewpoints. We live in a politically inflamed world and my students live in an echo chamber, so giving them an opportunity to see a subject they feel passionately about from multiple viewpoints will be really rewarding to them. I also am excited to share the resources on the Holocaust and genocide with a colleague starting that unit with his students so that he has a trusted place to send students for research.

I am looking forward to sharing the Infohio resources I feel will benefit our staff the most.  I will need to do some further exploring on the resources to determine which ones I want to share.  At the start I plan on using email and flyers to introduce resources and follow up with an in-person visit whenever possible.  As I find additional resources I will share these out as well.

Ron Moser 8 months, 1 week ago

I will be sharing INFOhio with our staff at next months staff meeting. I want to spend more time navigating this resource before then. If I were to share one thing at this point,  I would use the Educator Tools.

  • Here is the reason why an overview of Infohio.org resources (Iwith an emphasis on World Book Advanced) would be beneficial to share with the faculty at my high school: Providing an overview of these resources at the beginning of the school year ensures that faculty members are aware of the diverse materials available to support their teaching across various subjects and grade levels. I woulde mphasize a couple of resources at the end.
  • As a Librarian I can let others in my building or district know about Infohio.org:: Faculty Meetings or Professional Development Workshops, Email Newsletters or Announcements, Collaborative Planning Sessions or Curriculum Committees or PLC meetings.
  • As the school librarian, one way you can support the learning and continued use of Infohio.org in the classroom is by offering personalized support and assistance to teachers.

I work often with sharing bookflix and the tools of the younger ages with our ESL department.  My goal is to create a bimonthly bulletin sharing the library resources.  I will work with teachers as time allows to coteach different resources, however, our district is very finicky about what resources are allowed per the pacing guides that teachers are required to use.

Melissa Jarvis 8 months, 1 week ago

I will continue to use WorldBook Kids, Bookflix and Pebble Go Next this school year. I will support the contined use of this in the classroom by teaching students that these are readily available resources and by making them a fun learning experience that students will want to continue.

Darlene Alaniz 8 months, 1 week ago

I would share parts of the monthly newsletters as a way to see who is interested in learning more.  I would also share BookFlix, World Book Student, and Science Online with the staff.

Angela Rogers 8 months ago

There are so many wonderful resources available on INFOhio. Since I am a technology teacher, I have the opportunity to share the resources with all of the students in my building. At the beginning of the year, I like to share BookFlix with the younger students so that they know they have access to books wherever they are, as long as they have their device and internet. With the older graders, I like to introduce the different resources they can use for research, such as, World Almanac and World Book Kids. As I share these with students, I am sure to let teachers know that they have been introduced to them so they can continue to use them in their classrooms.

Explora has always been a great resource that I have used and will continue to use with students. Teachers will love its comprehensive content, user-friendly interface, credible sources, customization options, educational support features, accessibility, and resources for teachers and librarians. I always offer to co-teach with teachers as students are assigned research projects. Explora is something that I would definitely share as I coteach and may possibly share with the entire staff as well.

Gus Farmakidis 7 months, 3 weeks ago

I think the one resource I am the most looking forward to advertising is the Almanac! I will present this during an Instructional Improvement day. This is a quality resource that is already vetted for our teachers which saves time. In the classroom this will be great for current issues, for science fair, for reports that all need strongly vetted resources.

Amy Glosh 7 months, 3 weeks ago

I had a cursory knowledge of INFOhio prior to beginning the ICoach program, but I didn't realize the richness of the offering. I am looking forward to being in a better position to support teachers who might be looking for high-quality materials or supplemental info for their lesson plans. In the LRC, I now have a more indepth knowledge of BookFlix and World Book Kids and look forward to sharing with my scholars ALL that these sights have to offer. Both allow customization and that will definitely appeal to my classes.

Sarah Sherwood 7 months, 2 weeks ago

I like finding that perfect resource when a teacher needs it. Another librarian emailed me that one of her teachers was looking for an online dictionary. I was able to send back two options from INFOhio that made her day. It's keeping up on what teachers are doing and making sure they know to come to me for resources. They might not know what they need, but they know I'll find it!

Adrienne Kalaitsides 4 months, 3 weeks ago

Sarah I LOVE to find the perfect resource for teachers too! It's like handing them a gift! Such a rewarding feeling!

I'm looking forward to sharing INFOhio as a research tool that is reliable for research. I'd like to start with ISearch, but also introduce Bookflix and World Book. At the start of next school year, I'd like to begin working with grade 9 teachers and students to begin implementing INFOhio as a standard research-based tool.

Grade 3 and 4: Bookflix, World Book Kids, Fetch

Grades 3-5 lessons are delivered during scheduled "specials".

Grades 6-8: iSearch, World Book Student

7th grade - Science Reference Center and Science Online (Science Fair)

8th Grade - Points of View (Changemaker Challenge)

I push in to deliver resource lessons based on classroom projects. I also pull small groups to assist with the research process.

So far, the INFOhio resource that has been a favorite of mine and my students is BookFlix. It's a great collection of read-along books that students find easy to navigate and fun to access. I have many younger students who get frustrated when an e-book doesn't read aloud to them, and BookFlix is a great place to send students to find books that will do so. The variety and volume of books is wonderful. I've already alerted our ESL tutor to this resource, so that her ESL students can have books that read aloud to them. I'm looking forward to sharing this resource more widely. During my library classes, I plan to support this resource's use by continually remind students that they have it available to them, not just in the library but anywhere they are using their laptops.

What INFOhio resource or service are you most looking forward to sharing or training others on when the school year begins? How will you let others in your building or district know about it? How will you support the learning and continued use of this in the classroom?

As I have said in previous posts, I have very little to do with instruction.  My thoughts go to what I can do to support the INFOhio programs, to act as a reminder for it's use.  I think about making posters or possibly making Book Markers with QR Codes for easy access. I can do a bulletin Board for the Library.that will be a reminder of the program, where I can post new information throughout the year.  I can make  INFOhio more visible to our staff and our students. One way is to promote "Find my Library" the online digital book catalog for our school, to help students prior to when they come to the LRC searching for a book. Students are already familiar with SORA, we have a large number of students who read online.  Having the iCoach knowledge of the INFOhio programs and resources will make it easier to suggest and share where information can be found within the digital site.  There is much I can do as a support staff to not only support the Media Specialists in my buildings but to also support INFOhio.

I think the resource that I will be sharing with my staff that I am most excited about it the Science Reference Center.  I've stated this before but we try really hard to promote Science fair participation and I think this could be a very valuable resource.  I plan on letting the staff know by presenting a demonstration to them during our extended week before next school year begins.  As long as I okay it with the building principal, she will give me time to present this to our staff.

I plan on implementing more of Capstone because it provides a more thorogh display and has more content and games and learning activities for the older students that way they wont feel like the tool is running narrow on options. It opens up more exciting way to explore a new topic without losing thier interest during class.

I plan on sharing more bulletins with parents and eduacators the years to come

Matthew Garcher 5 months ago

I'm working with the librarian at one our districts high schools to increase the use of iSearch with students and teachers alike.  We are hoping to implement this at the beginning of next school year.

Andrea McSherry 5 months ago

I am most looking forward to sharing IWonder with teachers and students when the school year begins. I have seen that students have such a short attention span when it comes to techology. Also, teachers don't necessarily have ideas as to what to tell the students to do if they have a few minutes at the end of class before the next one starts. I really like IWonder because students can choose topics they like and the site will guide them from there. It is all age and developmentally appropriate. They are topics that students probably would not have thought of independently.

I am truly looking forward to sharing INFOhio resurces with my teachers! I'm thinking of a once a week INFOhio Pop-Up. Make it fun and useful but not overwhelming! I love small "club" type times that develop when you have interest from multiple people who get excited and motivated. I am excited to show Bookflix, CultureGrams, iSearch and Explora.  I will explore these a bit more so that I am able to demonstrate in the classroom or library.

I have a PD scheduled with our Social Studies teachers at the beginning of the year showing them all the amazing resources on INFOhio. I am setting up a document for them that provides direct links to resources next to their state standards. Then I am going to be using INFOhio for my regular library lessons with ELA teachers to continue to show them all the amazing things we get for free just being in Ohio. I am hoping to get the Science teachers at some point this year as well!
