Book Nook's New Look

by Janah Shumaker 1 year, 7 months ago

Good Afternoon!

Book Nook, a collection of student-created book trailers, serves as a tool for educators to explore and curate book titles and a place to showcase student-created book trailers. This site has been revamped and now has a brand new look.

Check out Book Nook’s New Look to learn more about how educators can leverage Book Nook as a tool to explore and curate book title lists. Updates to Book Nook include the following:

  • Digital Storytelling collection in Open Space that includes new and familiar instructional materials for use with Book Nook.
  • An updated process for submitting a student-created book trailer.
  • The categorization of book trailers into grade band collections based on estimated grade levels.

We hope you will explore Book Nook and consider engaging student creativity through digital storytelling! Please let us know if you have any questions or need support at support.infohio.org.

Thank you,

Janah & Sarah

Nice interface improvements!   I see Book Nook helps with digital literacy and communication skills and was wondering if you know which actual content standards are met?

TIA,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,
Thanks for the question! Standards alignment is available on many of the book trailer and digital storytelling lesson plans. Users can find a collection of book trailer and digital storytelling lesson plans in the Digital Storytelling collection on Open Space. Book Nook users might recognize the Creating a Book Trailer Lesson Plan from INFOhio. Users will find the standards alignment on the item in Open Space as you can see below and on the PDF lesson plan document.

We have expanded the original collection by adding lesson plans from ReadWriteThink. Some of the ReadWriteThink lesson plans include standards alignment on the item in Open Space as you see below.

RWTOpenSpace

Users can find standards alignment for all ReadWriteThink lesson plans using the Standards tab and selecting Ohio from the drop-down menu as you see below.

The lesson plans within the Digital Storytelling collection focus on all forms of digital storytelling (podcasts, book trailers, etc), so each lesson plan may meet different standards across Ohio's Learning Standards for Technology and Ohio's Learning Standards for English/Language Arts. The creation of book trailers also complements Ohio's Library Guidelines for Learners for Media Literacy and Digital Literacy

Thanks again, for the question, Lisa!
