SymphonyWeb Item Search Issues

by Terri Kempthorne 1 year, 11 months ago

I had a book pop up as a transfer to another school in our district. When I looked the book up in the item search window (by item ID), the window with the book-specific extra information (item info, circ info, bills, etc.) was right under the control, bibliographic, call number/item information. It wasn't until I started poking around and figured out that I could drag that information over that I was able to see the listings for which school had which book.

Is there a way to set this alignment as default, much like it already is in WorkFlows?

Also, when I tried to seach for a book by title, the at least some of the book listings don't show up. For example, When I search Dog Man, I get a list of titles and how many library copies, but I don't see the specific information like the item ID or the current status of each copy -even when I'm in the Call Number/Item tab at the bottom, unless I click on Detailed Display (which is an extra step that I do not have to do in WorkFlows).

Further, when I changed the owning library status of a book, WorkFlows shows the result immediately. I can search for the book title and have the book show up. In SymphonyWeb, the book does not show up in a search for my school until I log-out and log back into the system.

Thank you!

Hello Terri,

In WorkFlows there are Properties for the Item Search/Display wizard that allows you to be able to view detailed information and start under the Call Number/Item tab which displays more detailed information such as buildings that own a copy, the item ID, owning library, item group, material group, etc. This property is not turned on by default in SymphonyWeb it actually starts with Bibliographic informaton.  To get to the detailed Call Number/Item tab like WorkFlows you will need to do the following:

  1. Right-click on the Item/Search Display wizard and select Properties
  2. Select the Defaults tab
  3. To update the search critieria to your owning library change Library to your library.  This will allow the system to search your library .
  4. Under Editor Display Option make sure Descriptive View is selected.
  5. Scroll down to Tab Display Preference and change the selection to Call Number/ Item and select Ok to save selections.

Let me know if these settings help.

Kamile,

The first two settings were already set as you suggested. I did, however, change the display preference to Call Number/Item. Thank you for that.

I'll keep using it and see how it goes. Thank you.

Kamile,
I set my Item Search property to "call number" as shown in your screenshot but the screen still defaults to the DESCRIPTION tab.   Can you test this and let me know if I am missing a step?  THX.

Lisa,

My instructions for the Tab Display Preference setting actually refers to the item search screen once the Detailed Display button is pressed for an item.  This settting determines which tab displays first on the item screen.

The View Pane tabs are set by default with Description,  Call Number/ Item and any additonal tabs that may display for a particlar item displaying in the item search screen. The View Pane tabs can not be set display one tab before another in the Items Search screen. The view pane opton can only be toggled off and on to display the view pane screen information or turn it off.
