SymphonyWeb Check-In

by Kamile Shed 1 year, 11 months ago

Hello All,

I hope all is going well as you are using SymphonyWeb. As we continue using SymphonyWeb, I would like to get your opinion on documentation for this software. Although, SymphonyWeb is very similar to WorkFlows there are some features in the software that work differently that WorkFlows, one example is opening Reports. I have created documentation which is located under the Group Resources tab for some of the rare items in SymphonyWeb, but wanted to get your input on if there is any documentation that should be created for other features that uniquie in SymphonyWeb compared to WorkFlows?

Hi Kamile,

I did have to reach out for help on changing the default settings for checking out books, I wanted it to default to Keyword Alt ID.  It's all setup now but it was hard to find.

Hello Sheryl,

The option to use the ALT ID for the User Search helper is located under Properties in both WorkFlows and SymphonyWeb in the same area, but tucked away a bit. I think this would be a great FAQ for both SymphonyWeb and WorkFlows documentation, I will add this to my list.  Thank you for your feedback!

My computer settings for downloads is different than the directions.  After clicking OK, my downloads are automatic, so I am not able to select .doc for it it open in Word.  I have to go to my Download folder, right click on the document I want, and tell it to Open in Word there.

Hello Sasha,

Thank you for your response. This is due to a browser setting.  If your browser is not set to ask were to save a file, then it will most likely by default save it is the Downloads folder, in which you can rename the file and update the extension to open the file.

If you are using Chrome, Firefox or Edge, the setting that will need to be updated to have your browser to ask where to save the file is located below.  This is also a good addition to the instructions, so I will add this.

If you are using Firefox go to Settings and scroll down to Files and Applications, check the box to "Always ask you where to save files":

If you are using Chrome go to Settings and Downloads, move slider to "Ask where to save files before downloading".

If you are using Edge, type the following path in the search bar: edge://settings/downloads#All and move slider to  "Ask me what to do with each download".

Please keep in mind if you do not prefer to have your browser ask you where to save each file you download you can keep your setting as it is and just rename the file in the Downloads folder and open it from there.

Thank you so much for asking this question! I was having the same issue and could NOT figure out how to fix it. The extra instructions in this thread helped!
