This is a practice lesson designed to excite sports fans in a unit about determining who is speaking in a story. The students practice this specific skill as the teacher models it in the hook. This lesson allows students to write and tell the class sentences using the correct verb tense. Pictures and videos of the lesson in action are provided.

Without understanding spacing, students will not be able to successfully track print. In addition, students who do not understand spacing will also not be able to write appropriately. Students will be introduced to Space Man. This tool is used to help students see spaces in print.

In this lesson, students will look at the structure of both stories to determine how our two stories are the same.

Students will be answering text-dependent questions in which they will have to describe the differences between the different characters, settings, and major events in our stories using complex contrasting sentences. The students will first speak a compound sentence (as they contrast the two stories) by using a connecting word or conjunction and then they will write their sentence. Students will partner read The Kite, by Alma Flor Ada. Then work together in small collaborative groups to describe the character of the mother, the children, or the kitten. Included in this lesson are video demonstrations, printable character cards, and printable character maps.

Students will learn the importance questioning has on comprehension of a text. Students will use sticky notes and an interactive reading notebook while working with an informational text.

It is imperative that our students in Kindergarten understand that words have different forms. Students will orally change nouns from singular to plural by adding /s/ and will be able to show understanding of this in their writing. Includes a printable poster video, and samples of student work.
