SWBAT add an adjective to a sentence.
Using complex language, including rich descriptors, is necessary for mastery of the CCSS Standards. This lesson is a great lesson in using adjectives to enrich speaking and writing. Included are a video demonstration and printable worksheet.
Students will really be writing to sources with this lesson. They will write about cause and effects in a multi-flow map and then write sentences to explain the cause and effect relationships in this story.
During this lesson, students will sequence events in "Frog and Toad Are Friends" by Arnold Lobel, describe the problem and solution, and describe the characters.
Students will be able to identify and learn about clouds.
If you really speak WELL, people will love to listen! In this lesson, students will practice routines to help them speak audibly and express thoughts, feelings, and ideas clearly. Teaching this in the first weeks of school sets expectations for communication throughout the year. Included are posters, videos, a speaking checklist, and an assessment sheet.

Today students practice close reading as they look for evidence in the story so they can sequence the events for the beginning, middle, and end.
Students will partner read The Kite, by Alma Flor Ada. Then work together in small collaborative groups to describe the character of the mother, the children, or the kitten. Included in this lesson are video demonstrations, printable character cards, and printable character maps.
Your children will gain practice recalling details from what they read in the text.
Students will be able to describe familiar items and with prompting and support provide additional details by making Flubber. Making Flubber encourages students to engage in descriptive dialogue which helps develop the ability to provide precise details when recording observations and experiences.
