Many people do not like spiders and consider them pests. However, spiders provide a service to humans. They eat many of the insects that bother people. In this 7th grade life science activity, students will study 4-6 spider webs and discover what and how much spiders eat. They will identify the spiders building the webs, collect data and make observations related to the webs and what the spiders eat. They will use the information to develop a conclusion.
This extensive look at the arthropod provides enough information for any budding naturalist, but will also be interesting to one casually interested in insects, spiders, and crustaceans. The pictures are outstanding, and the writing is accessible and fun to read. Several interactive activities hold the reader's interest throughout the site.

Students will practice using different keywords to search for images relating to the life cycle of a flower. Students should have prior knowledge of the plant life cycle, as well as the life cycles of butterflies and frogs before beginning the lesson. This is an introductory lesson on internet research and should take place at the beginning of the unit. This is a one sesion activity.
