In this activity, students will explore the signs of life that can be found in water. They will begin by learning about the conditions needed to sustain life and why water is so vital. After finding ice on Mars during their simulation, students will consider what can be learned from this discovery. They will use microscopes to explore the signs of life found in Earth’s pond water, and they will classify their observations into several single-celled organisms. After sharing what they have learned, they will ultimately decide whether Mars’ frozen water should be similarly studied.
