Verizon Innovative Learning HQ is a free online education portal which empowers educators to help bring new ways of learning and next gen tech into the learning experience. The site includes hundreds of free lessons for K-12 ranging from supplemental turnkey lessons to yearlong courses, immersive learning experiences that can be accessed with technology ranging from mobile devices to VR headsets, and microcredential aligned professional development to help educators learn new skills and feel more confident integrating technology into the learning experience.

Aurelia will introduce students to biological adaptation using fish as the model organism. Organisms have adaptations that help them survive in their environment, including fish. Fish live in a variety of habitats thus leading to their diversity in body form and shape. To better understand how adaptations are tailored for various environments, students will explore the coral reef enviroment. Coral reef fish are fish which live amongst or in close relation to the complex coral ecosystems with tremendous biodiversity.

Lesson 4 is a step-by-step guide for the classroom which focuses on exploring and acknowledging the presence of Black people in the future and in space-related fields. It starts with students reading and discussing an interview with Samuel R. Delany. Then, students view a Black Futures artwork and information about Black astronauts, reflecting on the implications and spaces where they would like to see Black people fully represented. The lesson concludes with a design challenge task to make the best spaceship, either out of origami or recyclable trash. There is a recommended work time of 20+ minutes for building the spaceships, and students can submit their work for publishing on Instagram or email. The lesson is part of the #Kinfolk and #BlackFutures campaigns.
